Summary/Özet

Ayrımcı yargı ve tutumları yordamada ahlaki temeller kuramının rolüne odaklanan bir araştırma yürütüyoruz. Bu araştırma dahilinde, Ahlaki Temeller Kuramının tutum ve davranışları yordama gücünün Türkiye’den bir örneklemde test etmeyi, Ahlaki Temeller Kuramının tutum ve davranışları yordama gücüne dair kanıtlar bulunursa, bu ilişkinin ceza ve yaptırıma dair yargılarda ayrımcılığa yol açıp açmayacağı ihtimalini irdelemeyi, Ahlaki temellerin öncelenmesinin farklı ahlaki temel ile ilişkilendirilen sosyal gruplara yönelik tutumları yordama gücünü bulmayı ve Ahlaki temeli ihlal ettiği düşünülen gruplara yönelik davranışların, kişinin öncelediği ahlaki temele göre değişip değişmediği (cezai yaptırım kararları aracılığıyla) test etmeyi amaçlıyoruz.

We are conducting research focusing on the role of moral foundations theory in predicting discriminatory judgments and attitudes. Within the scope of this research, we aim to test the predictive power of Moral Foundations Theory on attitudes and behaviors in a sample from Turkey, to examine the possibility of whether this relationship will lead to discrimination in judgments about punishment and sanction, if there is evidence regarding the predictive power of Moral Foundations Theory to attitudes and behaviors, to examine whether the prioritization of moral foundations may differ in different ways. We aim to find the predictive power of attitudes towards social groups associated with the moral foundation and to test whether behaviors towards groups thought to violate the moral foundation change according to the moral basis that the person prioritizes (through criminal sanction decisions).

About the project/Proje Hakkında

Ahlaki temeller kuramında insanların ahlakı beş temel üzerine inşa ettiği iddia edilmiştir. Bu temeller, zarar/bakım, adalet/eşitlik, iç-grup/sadakat, otorite/saygı ve saflık/kutsallık temelleridir. Belli ahlaki temellerin, belli kişisel özellikleri yordadığı; belli ahlaki temeli ihlal eden/ettiği düşünülen bir eden bir gruba yönelik tutumların söz konusu ahlaki temeli önceleyen kişiler tarafından daha olumsuz olduğu bulgulanmıştır. Dolayısıyla bazı grupların toplumda daha olumsuz tutumlarla karşı karşıya kalmasının arkasında bu grupların belli ahlaki temelleri ihlal ettiği algısı olma ihtimali düşünülerek bu çalışmada ahlaki temeller kuramının ayrımcı tutum ve yargıları yordamadaki rolü araştırılacaktır.

In the theory of moral foundations, it has been claimed that people build morality on five foundations . These foundations are harm / care , justice / equality , in-group / loyalty , authority / respect , and purity / sanctity . Certain moral foundations predict certain personal characteristics ; It has been found that attitudes towards a group that violates / is thought to violate a certain moral foundation are more negative among those who prioritize that moral foundation . Therefore, considering the possibility that the reason why some groups face more negative attitudes in society is the perception that these groups violate certain moral foundations , this study will investigate the role of moral foundations theory in predicting discriminatory attitudes and judgments .

The goal of the project/Projenin Amacı

• Hangi sosyal grupların hangi ahlaki temelle ilişkili algılandığının belirlenmesi.

• Ahlaki temellerin öncelenmesinin farklı ahlaki temel ile ilişkilendirilen sosyal gruplara yönelik tutumları yordama gücünün belirlenmesi

• Ahlaki temeli ihlal ettiği düşünülen gruplara yönelik yargıların, kişinin öncelediği ahlaki temele göre değişip değişmediğinin ölçülmesi

• Ahlaki temeli ihlal ettiği düşünülen gruptan birinin gerçekten ahlaki bir ihlal gerçekleştirdiği durumda, bu kişiye yönelik cezai yaptırımların, ahlaki temele göre değişip değişmediğinin ölçülmesi

• Determining which social groups are perceived to be associated with which moral foundation.

• Determining the power of prioritization of moral foundations to predict attitudes towards social groups associated with different moral foundations.

• Measuring whether judgments towards groups thought to violate the moral foundation change depending on the moral basis that the person prioritizes.

• Measuring whether the criminal sanctions against this person change according to the moral basis, in cases where someone from the group thought to have violated the moral basis actually commits a moral violation.

How will the project be carried out?/Proje Nasıl Yürütülecek?

Ahlaki temeller kuramı ile ayrımcı tutum ve davranışlar arasındaki ilişkiye incelenirken, kişilerin hangi ahlaki temelleri öncelediği, bu öncelenen temellerin ayrımcı tutumlarla olan ilişkisi ve ahlaki ihlal durumunda öncelenen ahlaki temellerin cezai yaptırım kararlarını yordama gücüne dair çıkarımlar yapmaya çalışılacaktır.  Her adım için farklı bir veri toplama süreci gerçekleştirilecektir. While examining the relationship between moral foundations theory and discriminatory attitudes and behaviors, we will try to make inferences about which moral foundations people prioritize, the relationship of these prioritized foundations with discriminatory attitudes, and the power of the prioritized moral foundations to predict criminal sanction decisions in case of moral violation.

Value of the Project/Projenin Değeri

Ahlaki Temeller Kuramının geçerlilik güvenirliği oldukça yüksek bulunmuştur ancak ahlaki temeller kuramı kullanılarak ayrımcılığı yordamaya dair çok fazla çalışma yoktur, hatta Türkiye’de hiç ölçülmemiş bir ilişkidir. Dolayısıyla bu ilişkinin Türkiye örnekleminde ilk kez test edilmesi çıkacak olan sonuca yönelik merak ve önem teşkil etmektedir. Bununla birlikte, bu fenomeni Türkiye örnekleminde test etmek bu kuramın geçerliliğine dair olumlu veya olumsuz kanıtlar sunacaktır. Proje sonuçlarının hem bilimsel literatür için hem de ahlak odaklı çalışan sosyal psikologlar için önemli bir kaynak olacağı düşünülmektedir.

The validity and reliability of Moral Foundations Theory has been found to be quite high, but there are not many studies on predicting discrimination using moral foundations theory, and in fact, it is a relationship that has never been measured in Turkey. Therefore, testing this relationship for the first time in the Turkish sample creates curiosity and importance regarding the result. However, testing this phenomenon in a Turkish sample will provide positive or negative evidence for the validity of this theory. It is thought that the results of the project will be an important resource for both the scientific literature and morally focused social psychologists.
